Five doves are in my backyard early March morning,
Peck, peck, pecking at the brown grassy ground.
Eating seeds fallen from the birdfeeder.
Brother cardinal stops by the crabapple tree,
He is visible without the green bushy leaves of summer.
He is a yard away through the glass.
“Good morning!” he cranks around his neck and peers in at me for a brief moment.
Welcome to God’s breakfast buffet.
His eye is on the sparrow and His eye is on you too!
